A rental dock, a charter boat, and a very photogenic swan
We run the small stretch of water in front of Brophy Bros. — paddle craft and pedal boats on one side, the Dreamer on the other.
Ventura Boat Rentals sits at Dock C-10 in Ventura Harbor Village. On one side of the dock are the things you power yourself: kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and the swan, duck, dragon and flamingo pedal boats that end up in most people’s harbor photographs. On the other side are the electric boats you drive, and the Dreamer, our USCG-certified charter vessel.
The daytime operation is deliberately simple. There is no booking system, no deposit for paddle craft, and no membership. You walk down from the Village parking lot, pick a boat, sign the rental contract and go. On a warm Saturday there can be a wait — that is the trade for not needing to plan a week ahead.
The Dreamer runs the other half of the business: private 40-minute harbor tours, charters for birthdays and company parties, the California Sleigh Rides holiday cruises every December, and memorials at sea off the Ventura County coast. Those are all booked ahead by phone, one group at a time.
The line the crew have used for years still holds: if you’re stressed, float a while.
