Memorials

A beautiful burial at sea

A quiet way to say goodbye, aboard the Dreamer, off the coast of Ventura County.

We have been carrying out memorials off this coast for years, and the thing we hear most often afterwards is that the water made it easier. There is no rush and no script. You bring who you want to bring, we take you out, and the captain gives you as long as you need.

If you are in the middle of arranging this, the practical details are below — including the one permit California requires. If you would rather just talk it through, call (805) 642-7753.

Unattended ash scattering

Carried out by our crew

Unattended scatterings happen on a date and time of the company's choosing. If you need a specific date and time, it is priced as an attended memorial.

Memorial flower baskets

The basket sinks. The petals stay.

A weighted biodegradable basket, flowers on the handle, the cremated remains inside under a layer of petals with a dozen roses on top. At the location the roses are handed to the passengers, the basket goes into the water, and it descends as the remains disperse. The petals come back to the surface while the captain circles, and the roses go in one at a time.

Every basket is made individually, so no two are the same.

The permit you will need

California requires an Application and Permit for Disposition of Human Remains for a scattering at sea. Line 16A of that permit must read:

“Scatter off the coast of Ventura County, CA”

  • One permit is required for each person’s cremated remains being scattered.
  • The permit costs $12 and can be obtained from your California mortuary or crematory.
  • If the remains are from out of state or out of the country, you may need to contact the Ventura County Health Care Agency directly.
